Birshrestha Hamidur Rahman's death anniversary today
The 37th death anniversary of Birshrestha Hamidur Rahman will be observed today at the memorial complex built in honour of the great hero.
Teachers of Hamidur Rahman Degree Collage and employees of Bir Shrestha Sipahi Hamidur Rahman Smriti Jadughar and Pathagar at Hamid Nagar have taken all preparations to observe the day in a befitting way.
The programme beginning with placing of wreaths at his portrait at 10 am will include Qurankhwani, Milad Mahfil, discussion meeting and destitute feeding, said Shajahan Ali, convener of celebration committee.
Jhenidah Deputy Commissioner AKM Rafikul Islam will be present as chief guest while Police Superintendent Jahangir Hossain Matabbar, Lt.
Col. (Retd.) Sazzad Ali (Bir Pratik) and chief of joint forces in the district will attend as special guests. Lt. Col (retd) Sazzad fought along with Hamidur during the Liberation War.
The discussion meeting will be chaired by Moheshpur Upazila Nirbahi officer (UNO) Oziur Rahman.
Teachers, students, freedom fighters and people from all walks of life will attend the programmes.
Hamidur Rahman, while serving in the then East Bengal Regiment in 1971, joined the Liberation War. He embraced martyrdom while fighting the Pakistani occupation forces at Dhali frontier in Sreemongal in Sylhet on October 28.
Hamidur Rahman was born in 1954 at Khordakhalishpur village in Moheshpur upazila Jhenidah. He was the second among his brothers and sisters. The village has been renamed Hamidnagar after the great hero.
Bir Shrestha Sipahi Hamidur Rahman Smriti Jadughar and Pathagar was established in 2007.
