The newly formed selection panel of Bangladesh Football Federation (NFF) yesterday sat at its first meeting at the BFF Bhaban.
Apart from BKSP director Faruqul Islam, all other members of the five-man panel -- acting general secretary of BFF Manzoor Hossain Malu, Bashir Ahmed, Jahirul Haque, Col (retd) Obaidullah Khan -- were present in the introductory session.
Usually, world over, the coach is the only authority to select his players.
It was, however, surprising to see people -- except for two -- in this panel who hardly visits grounds to watch football matches.
Although the name of the committee suggests it will be involved in selection of national team and different age-group teams, it would mainly do duties of the non-existing National Team Management Committee in a broader aspect.
The panel is expected to sit today with national coach Syed Nayeemuddin, who returned to Dhaka with the national team last night on conclusion of their 16-day training camp in Cox's Bazar.
The members will also visit the Under-19 team's camp in BKSP tomorrow.
