Comilla Medical College closed after clash

Comilla Medical College (CMC) was yesterday declared closed for an indefinite period following a clash between students and local people.
The college academic council in an emergency meeting took the decision and also asked the students to leave their dormitories by Friday noon.
The clash ensured at around 11:00am when the CMC students, agitating against reopening of Medical Assistant Training School on the campus, chased the school's microbus driver, also a local.
Hearing the news, locals rushed to the campus and swooped on the students, leading to a clash between the two sides. Campus sources said at least 10 CMC students were injured during the clash.
On information, police went the campus, dispersed the clashing groups and brought the situation under control.
Earlier, the agitating CMC students locked the office of Medical Assistant Training School and forced its newly appointed principal Dr Shahiduddin out of his chamber.
They also damaged the computers and a microbus of the school. The college authorities formed a three-member committee to probe the incident.
