Eight of the ten mayoral candidates in Barisal City Corporation (BCC) election, including newly elected Mayor Shawkat Hossain Hiron, have submitted their election expenditure statement to the Election Commission office in compliance with the polls rules.
Barisal EC office sources said each mayor candidate was allowed to spend highest Tk 5.75 lakh as election expenditure.
The EC will take action against those who disregarded the instruction about submitting statement of election expenditure, the returning officer said.
According to the submitted statements, newly elected Mayor Shawkat Hossain Hiron (46,796 votes) spent Tk 5,30,782 including Tk 2,85,698 as campaign expenses while his nearest rival Sardar Sarfuddin Ahmed Santu (46,208 votes) spent Tk 3.88 lakh including Tk 1,09,500 as campaign expenses, EC sources said.
Ahsan Habib Kamal (26,416 votes) spent Tk 4.99 lakh including Tk 74 thousand as campaign expenses, Ebaidul Huq Chan (19,626 votes) spent Tk 5,21,100 including Tk 1.40.500 as campaign expenses, advocate Enayet Pir Khan (2,114 votes) spent Tk 5.5 lakhs including Tk 1.16 lakh as campaign expenses, AK Azad (885 votes) spent Tk 86,583 including Tk 32 thousand as campaign expenses, advocate Jahurul Huq (148 votes) spent Tk 43,768 including Tk 15,315 as campaign expenses and Syed Abdullah Shahid (807 votes) Tk 58 thousand without elaborating head of expenses.
Mayor candidates advocate Kabiruddin Hannu (672 votes) and Rafikul Islam Russel (281 votes) have not submitted their election expenditure reports to the EC.
