Shurolok's tribute to Abdul Ahad

Musical soiree in Melbourne

Singers of Shurolok perform at the musical programme

Shurolok Music Appreciation and Performance Group of Melbourne recently organised an evening of Rabindra Sangeet. Although the Bangla months of rainy season -- Ashar, Srabon -- had long gone in Bangladesh, the emotions evoked by rain were resonated through songs at the programme, titled “Ashar Sraboner Gaan”.
At the programme directed by Chanchal Khan, members of Shurolok rendered songs of Tagore that reflect an outpour of emotions -- love, separation, spiritual union with divinity and the universe, appreciation of nature, simple joys and more.
Farzana Haroon Shati's renditions of Bondhu raho and Nibiro ghano andharey were well appreciated. Nirupama Rahman's Aaj jemon korey, Baby Karmakar's Krishnokoli, Zakir Morshed Jami's Chhaya ghonaichhe bon-e bon-e and Priyanka Khan's Shaoano gaganey were thoroughly enjoyable.
Shurolok also remembered noted music director, composer and singer late Abdul Ahad. The organisation honours a renowned cultural personality at each of their programmes. As homage to Ahad, Chanchal Khan sang Tumi ki keboli chhobi.
