BASIS roundtable on govt procurement held
Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) organised a roundtable on Domestic Preference in Government Procurements on June 17 at the Conference Hall of BASIS, says a press release.
A K Fazlul Karim, adviser and former director general of the Central Procurement Technical Unit of IMED, Ministry of Planning, were present as chief guest while Zabed Ali Sorker, executive director, Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) and former President of BASIS A Towhid attended the Conference as special guests. Habibullah N Karim, president, BASIS chaired the session.
Chief executives of BASIS member companies attended the conference and shared their views on public procurement rules. Fazlul Karim replied to various queries raised by BASIS members.
In his summing up speech, Habibullah N Karim, stated that some clauses of the Public Procurement Act 2008 and Public Procurement Rules 2003 need to be amended for the benefit of the local entrepreneurs.
He also requested members to give their comments on the Act and Rules to enable BASIS to prepare a comprehensive recommendation and submit the same to the government. He also felt the necessity of organising a seminar to discuss elaborately various clauses of PP Act and Rules to make it congenial for the local entrepreneurs.
