Two GP staff abducted in Rangamati

Unknown criminals abducted two staff of the private telecom operator Grameenphone from near Kutukchhari Bazar under the sadar upazila yesterday afternoon.
The victims--Md Musa, an engineer, and Md Shamsuddin, a chauffeur--were taken into a nearby jungle, Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Police Station Md Saiful Islam told The Daily Star. A joint team of army and police has already launched rescue drives in suspected areas, he said.
Musa and Shamsuddin had come from Chittagong by a pickup to inspect an under-construction GP tower near Boro Mohapuram Government Primary School.
An armed gang kidnapped them at gunpoint some time after 5:00pm, said the OC. He said police were not yet sure about the motive of the kidnappers.
Army men from Kutukchhari camp took the GP pickup to their custody, he added.
