Rab collects videos from ATN Bangla
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) asked ATN Bangla Chairman Mahfuzur Rahman about the murder of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi and collected some video cassettes from the private television channel in the capital yesterday.
“As part of the ongoing investigation, we talked to the ATN Bangla chairman, Runi's colleagues and administration of the channel," said Com mander M Sohail, director of Rab's media and legal wing, who led the investigation team to ATN Bangla office.
Rab also collected several video cassettes, including the one containing Megh's [Runi's son] interview, and the list of assignments performed by Runi and inspected the computer she used to operate, he said.
ATN Bangla sources quoted Mahfuzur Rahman as saying, "They [Rab] questioned me and wanted to know what information we [ATN Bangla] have about Sagar and Runi.”
Last week the Rab men went to Maasranga television and talked to Sagar's colleagues, the channel's management and collected some videos of reports on the killing.
Recently Mahfuzur Rahman said in London, "Sagar and Runi were victims of an extra-marital affair.” He also claimed that he had footage relating to the motive of the murder.
The comments sparked a strong protest and led journalists to demand Mahfuzur's arrest.
Sagar Sarowar, a news editor at Maasranga, and his wife Meherun Runi, a senior reporter at ATN Bangla, were killed in their flat in the capital on February 11.
The Rab team stayed at the ATN Bangla headquarters in Karwan Bazar for about four hours from 10:30am to 2:15pm.
