Krishak League chief in Rangamati abducted
Krishak League Rangamati district unit President Anil Chandra Tangchangya was kidnapped from Bogapara in Kawkhali upazila yesterday morning.
Police said unidentified criminals picked up Anil Chandra Tangchangya, also vice president of district AL, from near Bogapara bailey bridge while he was coming to the district town from his house at Wagga in Kaptai to attend the monthly meeting of the law and order committee at the deputy commissioner's office.
As the news spread in the town, activists of the ruling Awami League and its associate bodies, including Jubo League, Sramik League, Krishak League, and Swechhasebok League, brought out a procession protesting abduction of their leader.
The agitating AL men blamed Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) for abduction of Anil Tanchangya. They attacked the office of Chittagong Hill Tracts Regional Council (CHTRC), damaged its windowpanes and some vehicles.
They AL men also put up barricades on Rangamati-Chittagong Road, disrupting traffic for one and a half hours from 11:30am.
Protesting attack on CHTRC office by the ruling party men, leaders and workers of PCJSS and its associate organisations also took out a procession in the town. Later, they took position on the main road near CHTRC office for resist any further attack on the regional council office.
The situation returned to normal after AL withdrew road blockade. Police and army personnel have launched drives to rescue the Kidnapped Krishak League leader.
