Jubo Dal men rough up BNP leader
Jubo Dal activists swooped on the general secretary of BNP Baghaichhari upazila unit in Rangamati town on Sunday night, leaving him seriously injured.
The injured BNP leader, Md Selim Uddin Bahari, was admitted to Rangamati General Hospital.
He filed a case with Kotwali Police Station against 25 Jubo Dal men including the district unit general secretary Ilias. None of the accused was arrested as of 6:00pm yesterday.
Witnesses said Selim Bahari came under attack by the members of Juba Dal district unit at Hotel Green restaurant at around 9:00pm.
“About 20-25 Juba Dal men led by Iliyas and Hiro Talukder launched the attack, holding me responsible for assaulting district BNP leader Lt Col (retd) Monish Dewan and Rangamati municipality Mayor and BNP pourasave unit President Saiful Islam Bhutto during their organisational tour of Baghaichhari on November 10,” Selim said.
Local BNP sources said the attack on Selim was a sequel to an internal feud that surfaced in the district unit after joining the party by Monish Dewan a couple of months ago.
Two rival groups---one led by Dipen Dewan and another by Monish Dewan and Saiful Islam Bhutto--are involved in mud-slinging against each other and holding separate organisational programmes in the district, sources said, adding that Selim Bahari belongs Dipen Dewan faction.
