Mysterious death of a youth in Feni

A youth died at Feni Sadar Hospital yesterday, two days after he was taken home from a rehabilitation centre for the drug addicts.
Family members of the youth, Amirul Islam alias Amirul, 32, alleged that he was tortured at the rehabilitation centre as he refused to take medicines.
Amirul's father Ali Haider Bhuiyan said his son was a mental patient. He said they took Amirul to Mayabi Rehabilitation Centre at Shaheed Shahidullah Kaiser Road in the town 20 days ago.
After keeping Amirul at the centre for 18 days, he was taken home on Thursday. As his condition deteriorated, he was admitted to Feni Sadar Hospital yesterday morning and died soon after admission.
Despite several attempts over cellphone, this correspondent could not contact Dr Md Zakaria Siddiqui of the centre for his comments.
Anwar Hossain Bablu, director of “Mayabi” Rehabilitation Centre, said Dr Zakaria comes to Feni from Dhaka Saturdays and visit the patients at the centre.
Refuting torture allegation made by Amirul's family, Anwar Hossain said he was taken home from the centre two days ago.
No case was filed in this connection with Feni Sadar Police Station as of filing of this report as 5:00pm yesterday.
