Fair polls not possible without caretaker govt
A fair national election, in the context of Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) election, is not possible without a caretaker government, said noted jurist and Gono Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain yesterday.
“When those who are in power did not keep election commission's plea then, I think, it is not possible to hold a fair election without a caretaker government,” he said.
Dr Kamal told journalists at his Bailey road residence in the city on the occasion of the Constitution Day.
Though India's example is being given for holding the election without a caretaker government, there is nobody above the Election Commission of India in matters of election, even the prime minister and president, Dr Kamal said.
On NCC polls, Dr Kamal said despite many crises, a ray of hope was seen. “If I was still a young man, I would be an activist of Ivy (the new Narayanganj mayor),” he said.
