Long march starts

National Committee to Protect Oil, Gas, Mineral Resources, Power and Ports yesterday set off on their long-march programme in protest of the government's plan to extract gas from Sunetro Gas Field by a foreign company.
They started their four-day long programme from Jatiya Press Club in the city toward Sunetro in Sunamganj around 10:00am, says a press release.
The committee's leaders said, instead of foreign company if local company is appointed to extract gas, the ongoing power and gas problems will be solved.
They also called upon the people to participate in their movement to protest against the people who want to hand over the country's gas resource to foreigners.
The committee's Convener Engr Sheikh Muhammad Shahidullah and its member secretary Anu Muhammad, among others, addressed several street rallies held in different places of their first day of the journey.
