Attack on BNP leader's house in Netrakona, 20 injured

At least 20 BNP men were injured as AL activists equipped with lethal weapons attacked the house of Durgapur upazila BNP General Secretary Alam Bhuiyan at Jangail Bazar yesterday afternoon.
Witnesses said AL men led by Emdad Hossain, organising secretary of AL Durgapur upazila unit, swooped on the house where local BNP unit was holding a workers' meeting.
They hit the BNP men with sharp weapons and ransacked the house. Seriously injured BNP leader Alam Bhuiyan and activists Rajib, Shahjahan, and Hamim were admitted to Durgapur Upazila Health Complex while the rest given first aid.
Contacted, Officer-in-Charge of Durgapur Police Station admitted to the incident. He said police were sent to the spot to bring the situation under control. However, no case was filed with the police station as of filing of this report at 7:00pm yesterday.
Earlier on the day, the upazila administration imposed section 144 in cattle market area of Jangail Bazar from 6:00am as local BNP and Awami League convened meetings at the same venue at same time.
Upazila administration sources said local BNP arranged a workers meeting at the cattle market at 11:00am yesterday. Awami League Kakoirgora union unit also called a party meeting at the same venue at same time.
Apprehending clash between the two parties, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rasedul Islam imposed Section 144 in and around the cattle market.
The UNO said he imposed restrictions on holding rally in the area to avert any untoward incident.
