Campaign to keep Cox's Bazar beach clean
Banglalink, the cell-phone operator with a huge number of subscribers in the country, observed International Coastal Cleanup Day 2010 at Cox's Bazar yesterday.
On the occasion, the organisation brought out a procession, cleaned parts of Cox's Bazar beach and arranged other events to raise awareness among tourists and locals, says a press release.
A good number of people turned up the events showing their support to preserving and saving the world's longest beach.
In association with Kewkradong Bangladesh, which is working as country coordinator for International Costal Cleanup, Banglalink observed the day in line with the organisation's year-long beach cleaning project and their campaign to promote tourism in Bangladesh.
Cox's Bazar Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Gias Uddin Ahmed attended the occasion as chief guest while Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu, former national cricket captain, was present as special guest at a function arranged on the occasion.
“Now more than ever it is absolutely essential to raise awareness about the harmful behaviours that cause pollution,” Ahmed Abou Doma, CEO of Banglalink said.
During International Coastal Cleanup day, people are engaged in removing trash and debris from different beaches and waterways of the world and generate awareness to change the behaviours that cause pollution.
