Storm lashes 10 villages
A severe storm blown away more than 200 houses and left 20 people wounded in 10 villages of Raninagar upazila yesterday afternoon.
The storm lasting about five minutes followed by heavy downpour left a trail of destructions. Trees were uprooted, electric poles twisted and extensive damage caused to standing crops and vegetables by the storm.
At least twenty persons were wounded by house collapse or flying saucers. Imran Ali, Chayer Fakir, Abdul Mannan and Maftullah were admitted to Raninagar Health Complex. Others were treated in local clinics.
UP Chairmen of Gona and Mirat Aminul Haq Belal and Rafiqul Alam told UNB by phone that the storm swept over Bhabanipur, Gona, Besgari, Dhanpara, Jalalabad, Ataikula. Bhabanipur is the worst affected village.
Deputy Commissioner Nasmanara Khanam said the Raninagar UNO has been advised to visit the affected areas and assess the damage.
