A cultural function was held in Tangail on Saturday evening to mark the historic Mujibnagar Day (April 17).
Tangail Zila Shilpakala Academy organised the event at Shaheed Smrity Poura Uddan in the town with the support of the district administration.
The artistes of Shilpakala Academy and others organisations performed songs and dances related to the Liberation War, on the open stage.
Earlier, Tangail Deputy Commissioner M Bazlul Karim Chowdhury, Tangail Upazila Chairman Abdur Rashid, and local Awami League leaders Shawkat Ali Talukder and Faruque Ahmed addressed the discussion.
Highlighting the glorious events of the Liberation War, the speakers at the discussion said that the far sighted leadership of the then Mujibnagar Government had enabled the country to gain Independence within only nine months.
The speakers also highlighted the roles of Khandakar Asaduzzaman and late Abdul Mannan, two proud sons of Tangail district, who played prominent roles in the Mujibnagar Government.
Among others, Tangail Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Fahimul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Abdus Sattar Sheikh and Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Syeda Salma Begum also attended the discussion.
