Blast at scrap ship in Ctg

A huge explosion took place in a scrap ship at a ship-breaking yard of Sitakunda upazila in the port city last night.
Police said the explosion was created as workers set fire to chemical wastes inside the old ship around 7:45pm at Namrin Ship Breaking Yard at Shitalpur.
The blast caused a strong vibration that damaged the windowpanes of surrounding buildings.
Officer-in-Charge Monirul Alam of Sitakunda Police Station said the workers were cleaning the wastes by setting those alight, defying the ship-breaking rule.
He added the ship was imported on January 16 last year to the yard of Shawkat Ali.
Police couldn't say if there was any casualty on the spot as of today 1:00am.
