Huge amount of Viagra, banned drugs seized

Customs officials at Zia International Airport yesterday said a joint taskforce seized over 5,000 Viagra and Munish pills, prescription drugs used for treating male impotence, from the luggage of a hajj pilgrim on November 22.
Meanwhile, a task force of customs and air force officials yesterday seized more than 6,000 pieces of precious stones from the luggage of another hajj pilgrim at Ashkona Hajj Camp in the capital.
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in two separate drives in the capital yesterday seized illegal drugs worth about Tk 20 lakh and 50,000 CDs with pornographic movies.
ASM Humayun Kabir, additional commissioner of customs at Zia International Airport, said the joint taskforce during luggage scanning discovered 1,980 Viagra, 3,164 Munish, 4,130 Neoceptin pills and 47 cans of jarda (chewing tobacco) inside the luggage of Shahdur Rahman at the hajj camp.
Shahdur, however, managed to leave for Jeddah. The customs commissioner said they have asked the immigration officials here to arrest him on his return.
Humayun said they found the precious gems scanning the luggage of Ali Azam.
The luggage had 696 rings studded with precious stones and 5,968 pieces of other gems hidden inside, he said adding that law enforcers later arrested Azam and handed him over to Airport Police Station.
During primary interrogation, Azam said he has been smuggling out gems in the guise of a hajj pilgrim for the last four years.
Meanwhile, Rab-10 officials said they raided two wholesale medicine shops, Washa Agency and New Drug International in Babubazar of Old Dhaka, around 3:00pm and seized several sacks of sex-stimulating drugs smuggled in from abroad. They also seized 700 pathedine injections.
They arrested Roman, Sirajul Islam, Akhter and Abdul Latif in this connection.
