Robbers kill shop owner in Ctg, loot house in Chandpur
Robbers yesterday killed a shop owner in Chittagong and looted house of a businessman in Chandpur while burglars damaged documents and took away equipment from five upazila offices in Gaibandha.
Robbers shot to dead a shop owner and injured three others during a robbery at Chandpur village in Fatikchhari upazila early yesterday, according to UNB.
Police said, a gang of masked robbers, numbering 30-35 entered the house of Ahmed Sofa by breaking open the door at about 3am. They looted cash and valuables including gold ornaments, mobile sets worth over Tk 1 lakh taking the inmates hostage at gunpoint.
Hearing the hue and cry of the inmates, locals rushed to the spot. The robbers sprayed bullets on the neighbours leaving Badiul Alam, 40, killed and three others injured.
The injured were admitted to local health complex.
A Correspondent from Chandpur reports: A group of 12 to 15 armed robbers attacked the house of a businessman in Faridganj of Chandpur district early yesterday. They took the inmates hostage at gunpoint and looted about 20 tolas of gold, five cell phone sets and Tk 15,000 in cash.
Owner of the house Nurul Alam Shahin is the owner of Cosmic Air International at Darus Salam Arcade at Purana Paltan in Dhaka. At the time of the incident, his mother Fatema Begum, two younger brothers, sister-in-law Marjan Begum and housemaid Rima were present at the house.
Shahin's younger brother Ibrahim said, a gang of masked robbers entered the house by breaking open the collapsible gate. The robbers tied him and other inmates at gunpoint and searched different rooms of the house.
Our Correspondent from Gaibandha reports: Burglars entered five different Gobindaganj upazila offices early yesterday, damaged official documents and took away some equipments.
Police said, an investigation is going on to find how the burglary was committed despite presence of a number of night guards and ascertain the extent of loss.
They said, concerned officials detected the burglary after coming to offices yesterday morning. An organised gang of criminals entered the offices including upazila statistics office, agriculture office, project implementation office, accounts office and fisheries office.
The burglars damaged papers and documents and broke open the strong room at accounts office, said Gobindaganj upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Riyasat Al Wasif. They took away computer set from statistics office, he said.
