Navy officer missing
A naval officer went missing and two others were injured when a Navy speedboat capsized after it had lost its control in Narayanganj Bandar Kheyaghat area in the Shitalakhya river yesterday.
The wretched petty officer was identified as Sirajul Islam, 42, while the injured were officer Rezaul Karim, 40, and worker Swadhin, 42.
They were rescued and given first aid.
Officer-in-Charge Harun-or-Rashid of Bandar Police Station said two navy officers and a worker were coming to Narayanganj launch terminal in a speedboat crossing the river to take training at Dockyard and Engineering Workshop at Sonakanda in Bandar upazila run by the Navy.
The motor boat lost its control at Bandar Kheyaghat. Naval petty officer Rezaul and worker Swadhin managed to swim ashore, but Sirajul went missing.
Fire service and BIWTA divers team have been conducting a rescue operation to recover the missing officer.
Rab and police are also conducting a search in the river.
