Man dies in Mirpur 'cop custody'

A man accused in an arms case died in police custody hours after he was arrested by Mirpur police in the capital early today.

Deceased Mahbubur Rahman, 35, was an accused in a case filed under the Arms Act, Bangla daily Prothom Alo reports.

Sakhawat Hossain, assistant commissioner of police (Mirpur Zone), said police arrested two persons along with 145 Yaba tablets on Saturday.

Based on their information, police conducted a raid at the house of Mahbub and recovered two magazines and 10 bullets, the AC told the Bangla daily.

Mahbub was taken to Mirpur Police Station around 3:00am where he confessed to his crimes.

Police took him to a local clinic after he felt sick around 4:00am.

Later, Mahbub was shifted to Surawardi Hospital where the doctors declared him dead, the police official said.
