Jubo League man shot dead in Laxmipur
Miscreants shot dead a youth front activist of the ruling Awami League at Palehat Bazar under Laxmipur on Thursday night.
Rabiul Islam, 30, son of late Jafar Ahmed, was an activist of South Hamsadi union unit Jubo League, quoting a newly elected upazila chairman our Noakhali correspondent reports.
According to eyewitness, a group of miscreants numbering seven to eight people shot Rabiul dead on the spot around 10:30pm yesterday.
The attackers, riding on a CNG-run auto-rickshaw, went to Palehat Bazar area where Rabiul was taking tea at a stall.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to the Laxmipur Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
AKM Salauddin the newly elected chairman of Laxmipur Sadar upazila parishad also a joint convener of Awami Jubo League of the unit, claimed that Rabiul was an active worker of the party.
Besides, locals alleged that the killing incident took place over a long-lasting feud to control drug trading in the area.
Iqbal Hossain, officer-in-charge of Laxmipur Police Station, told our Noakhali correspondent that a case was lodged in this connection and law enforcers were trying to arrest those responsible for the killing.
