- 11 eminent journalists, writers and poets express deep sorrow for imprisonment of several political leaders including student leader Mahbub Ullah though the president had recently announced they will be released. They demanded immediate release of Mahbub Ullah and other political leaders and workers at a joint statement signed by Shahidullah Kaiser, Ali Ashraf, Ataus Samad, Hasan Hafizur Rahman, Kamal Lohani, Nirmal Sen, Fazl Shahabuddin, Sanaullah Nuri, Ahmed Humayun, Fakir Ashraf and Shamsur Rahman.
- A four-member delegation of Pakistan People’s Party departs for Dhaka from Karachi ahead of the important meeting between Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and ZA Bhutto. The members included central committee member Miraz Mohammad Khan, D Mobashhir, Hanif Rame, Zahir Mohammad Khan. Party leader Tarique Aziz Khan will be formally along with the visiting delegation.
- World Bank project chief Bernard Chadenet arrives in Dhaka from Washington for a four-day visit in East Pakistan. He will evaluate the reformation of cyclone-affected areas and effective steps for flood control during his stay.
- Speaking in Karachi, ZA Bhutto says his party will soon form a body to find a rightful solution to the language problem of Sindh in line with the desire of its inhabitants. The proposed committee will be formed with language and education specialists. Both Sindh and Urdu languages will get their rightful place in Sindh. He says a government of the people will be formed soon and it will be best to leave these matters upon the hands of those elected from the people. Bhutto says forming the government is their first priority because it is the mandate for the people.
