Illegal structures being built on govt land
Three ruling party men have started building illegal structures, occupying government land in Baliatali area under Kalapara upazila.
Locals said, Aslam Howlader, vice-president of Kalapara upazila unit of Jubo League, Ziaur Rahman, president of Kalapara municipality unit of Jubo League, and Mushfiqur Rahman Hira, a leader of Kalapara upazila unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), were constructing permanent structure, grabbing Bailatali Union Parishad's land beside Kalapara-Kuakata alternative road.
They all are brothers of Mostafa Kamal, vice chairman of Kalapara Upazila Parishad, and .ABM Humayun Kabir, chairman of Balialati Union Parishad.
Locals further said, the three ruling party men were building the permanent structures on the union parishad's land to build a market there. Construction materials were brought to the site four days ago, but nobody dared to protest the illegal act, fearing harassment, they added.
Aslam Howlader, one of occupiers, told this correspondent that they leased the land from Patuakhali Water Development Board (WDB) office recently, but he could not show this correspondent any documents relating to lease agreement.
Md Humayun Kabir, assistant commissioner (AC land) of Kalapara upazila, said they have asked the occupiers to stop construction work and hoisted a red flag at the site.
Contacted, Md Delwar Hossain Matabbar, additional DC (revenue), said lawful action will be taken against the occupiers of the government land.
