Hajee Danesh varsity shut till Dec 15 amid agitation
The authorities today shut Hajee Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU) till December 15 amid demonstrations by the activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League demanding withdrawal of the expulsion orders against their three leaders, who cheated in the admission test.
The students have been asked to vacate their dormitories by 5:00pm today, our Dinajpur correspondent reports.
The decisions came from an emergency meeting this afternoon fearing deterioration of law and order situation on the campus in the wake of BCL’s ongoing strike that started November 17.
The disciplinary committee has expelled the BCL leaders from the university for cheating in the admission test using a hi-tech device on November 4.
The expelled students are Arun Kanti Roy, a PhD student and general secretary of the HSTU unit of BCL, SM Zahid Hasan, a fourth year student of business studies and organising secretary of the BCL unit, and Anindya Dutta, a second year student of telecommunication and electric engineering and executive committee member of the unit.
During the admission test on November 4, teachers of the university caught a student named Md Abul Hossain with the device and handed him over to the police. Based on his statement, the authorities formed an investigation team.
As per the recommendations of the committee, the HSTU authorities later expelled the three BCL leaders.
The academic activities of the university have remained suspended since November 17 as BCL enforced an indefinite strike, demanding withdrawal of the expulsion orders issued on November 4 and demanding removal of the vice chancellor.
