A six-year-old girl was dumped on a corn field after she was raped and suffocated to death by her neighbour in Akran village of Savar, on the outskirts of the capital, on Sunday.
Police arrested the rapist, Selim Miah, 24, of Pirojpur, at his house yesterday.
Selim confessed to police that he lured her to his house with mangoes and raped her on Sunday evening. He stuffed his T-shirt into her mouth to ensure that she cannot scream, leaving her dead at a point.
Police recovered the body with the t-shirt in the mouth and sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for an autopsy. A case was field.
Victim's father said he went to work in the afternoon leaving his daughter alone at home.
