PM in Saudi Arabia to attend OIC summit
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in Saudi Arabia, the second destination of her tri-nation tour, yesterday afternoon after wrapping up her four-day visit to Japan.
A special flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the PM and her entourage landed at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah at 5:15pm (local time).
Prince Badr Bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, deputy governor of Makkah region, accorded a red carpet reception to the PM.
Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen and Bangladesh Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Golam Moshi were present. Later, the PM left the airport for the place of residence, the Makkah Palace.
The flight carrying her departed Haneda International Airport in Tokyo at 9:45am (local time) where Japanese State Minister for Foreign Affairs
PM in Saudi Arabia Toshiko Abe saw her off.
During her three-day stay in Saudi Arabia, Hasina will attend the 14th session of the OIC’s Islamic Summit in Makkah and perform the holy Umrah today. She will offer Fateh at the Rawza Mubarak (grave) of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) tomorrow.
In the early hours of Monday morning, the PM will leave Saudi Arabia for Finland where she will be staying until June 7.
During her stay in Finland, Hasina will hold a meeting with Finnish President Sauli Niinisto on June 4.
Saudi Arabia is hosting the 14th session of the OIC’s Islamic Summit in Makkah. The summit, titled “Makkah Summit: Together for the Future”, aims to develop a unified stance on events in the Islamic world.
Hasina was scheduled to attend the opening ceremony of the summit yesterday evening.
The PM will attend the closing session today and then join the Suhoor Banquet at Safa Palace.
In the evening, she will perform Umrah.
The PM will leave Jeddah for Madinah by air tomorrow morning and offer Fateha at the Rawza Mubarak (grave) of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH). In the evening, she will depart Madinah for Jeddah by air.
On May 28, the PM had left Dhaka for Japan to attend the 25th Nikkei International Conference on “The Future of Asia” there.
During the PM’s stay in Japan, the two countries signed the 40th Official Development Assistance (ODA) deal involving $2.5 billion after a bilateral meeting between Hasina and her Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe on Wednesday.
The PM is scheduled to return home on June 8.
