Ctg mayor faces contempt rule
The High Court today issued a contempt of court rule against Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor M Manjur Alam and three others for continuing the construction of a market building in the city ignoring the court’s order.
In response to a petition, the HC asked the four to explain why contempt of court proceedings should not be brought against them for defying its order.
The three others are: Ali Ahmed, CCC chief executive officer; Yusuf Ali, president of Bahaddarhat Pauro Market; and Anwar Hossain, a contractor and proprietor of Four Star Syndicate.
The bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman also summoned Ali Ahmed to appear before it on September 15 to explain his role about constructing the supermarket building.
Earlier on August 14, the HC upon a writ petition prohibited the CCC authorities from constructing the structure near Sajal Supermarket at Bahaddarhat.
Despite this prohibition, the CCC authorities continued constructing the market.
Sajal Supermarket Cooperative Society recently filed the contempt of court petition against Manjur and the three others.
