Criminal killed in Jessore ‘shootout’
A criminal was killed in a “shootout” with police in Sharsha upazila of Jessore early today.
The deceased is Anisur Rahman, son of Wazir Rahman of Baliadanga village in Satkhira Sadar upazila, reports our Benapole correspondent.
He was accused in at least 12 cases filed with different police stations for possessing firearms and explosives, vandalism, robbery and arson, said Ahmed Kabir, officer-in-charge of Sharsha Police Station.
Satkhira Sadar police arrested Anisur from Dhaka yesterday, the OC said.
In primary interrogation, Anisur informed police about his cohorts, who have been carrying a number of firearms.
To arrest the other criminals and recover the firearms, Satkhira police in association with Sharsha police conducted a drive at Basatpur intersection along with Anisur around 1:45am.
Sensing their presence, Anisur’s associates opened fire at the law enforcers forcing them to fire back.
Anisur came in the line of fire and died on the spot, the OC said.
Two police constable Mithun and Nurul Islam also sustained injuries during the incident, the police official added.
The body of Anisur was sent to Jessore Medical Collage and Hospital morgue for autopsy.
