War trial: SC to hear Mir Quasem’s review plea July 25
The Supreme Court today fixed July 25 for hearing the petition filed by convicted war criminal Mir Quasem Ali seeking review of his judgement that had upheld his death penalty.
Chamber Judge of the SC Justice Justice Hasan Foez Siddique fixed the date following a government petition for fixing a date for hearing on the review petition.
Earlier in the day, the attorney general’s office submitted the petition praying the apex court to hold an early hearing on the review petition.
On Sunday, Quasem sought review of the SC verdict that had upheld his death penalty for the crimes committed during the country’s Liberation War in 1971.
Quasem submitted the petition with the apex court through his lawyer seeking acquittal of all the seven charges against him.
The death row war criminal was shifted to the Dhaka Central Jail from Kashimpur prison of Gazipur yesterday.
