Tk 3.2 lakh Hajj package gets cabinet nod
Hajj pilgrims have to pay Tk 3.19 lakh to perform the pilgrimage under the government management, according to the draft of 2017 Hajj package approved by the cabinet today.
Those who will be undertaking the top congregation pilgrimage under private management will have to pay Tk 3.81 lakh. A total of 1,27,000 will be able to perform hajj this year.
Cabinet Secretary M Shafiul Alam briefed reporters after the weekly meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Also, the cabinet approved the draft of the 'Dowry Prohibition Act 2017' with a provision of 14-year jail term for inciting suicide and life sentence for critically injuring the victim.
It has also provision of compensation for the victim, said Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam. For minor torture, the accused might be sentenced with imprisonment from 1 to 3 years with fine.
The cabinet also approved two new public universities-- Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Science and Technology University in Melandah of Jamalpur and Sheikh Hasina University in Netrokona, the cabinet secretary said.
