‘Robber’ killed in Kushtia ‘gunfight’

An alleged robber is killed in what police claimed a gunfight in Sadar upazila of Kushtia early today.

The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately, our Kushtia correspondent reports quoting Ratan Ali Seikh, officer-in-charge of Islamic University Police Station.

On information, that a group of seven to eight robbers was preparing for robbery at Mahisdanga area on Kushtia-Khulna highway a team of police went to the spot around 3:30am, the official said.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the criminals fired shots at the police personnel which prompted them to retaliate triggering a “gunfight”, the official said.

Police found a bullet-hit body on the spot and rushed him to the Kushtia General Hospital where doctors declared him dead, the OC said.

A pistol and four bullets were recovered from the spot.
