Two labourers died and one was injured after they were pinned under a heavy container at Rampal Coal-based Power Plant which is being built near the world’s largest mangrove forest, Sundarbans.

The deceased were identified as Nayeb Ali, 45 and Firoz, 49, hailing from Bheramara upazila of Kushtia, our Bagerhat correspondent reports quoting Officer-in-charge of Rampal Police Station Luthfur Rahman.

The incident occurred last evening, but the OC confirmed the deaths today.

A heavy container suddenly tilted and fell on the three workers at the under-construction 1320-watt Rampal coal-based thermal power plant, the official said.

Nayeb and Firoz both died on the spot and injured Shohanur, 24, is being given primary treatment.

The construction firms will give compensation to the victims’ families, said Deputy Director of the power plant Rezaul Karim.

Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased have been handed over to their families, the official said.
