Wife behind killing?
Police suspect that the wife of a tea stall owner may be involved in his killing over her alleged affair with another man in Sadar upazila of Netrakona.
Police recovered the body of Mamun Mia, 38, son of Abu Mia of Moujebali village, from a paddy field in the village on Friday.
Police detained Humayun Kabir Hablu, 56, Jewel Mia, 32, and Biram Khan, 45, on Saturday.
The detainees said Mamun's wife Parvin Akter, 25, allegedly had an illicit relationship with Ashiq Talukder, 28, of the village.
Terming Mamun as a barrier, Ashiq allegedly planned to kill him, said Netrakona Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Borhan Uddin Khan, quoting the detainees.
The killers strangled Mamun and left the body in his village early Friday, he said.
The detainees were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court in Netrakona on Saturday where Hablu gave confessional statement, the OC added.
Police sought five-day remand each for Jewel and Biram yesterday, but no hearing was held as of filing of this report around 5:30pm.
Mamun's wife denied any illicit relationship with Ashiq, the OC said, adding that they are investigating the statements of the detainees.
The prime suspect Ashiq is yet to be arrested.
Mamun's mother Fatema Akter lodged a case with the police station accusing unknown people on Friday, the OC said.
