Teen, 2 women found dead
At least 15 people were injured in a clash between two rival groups of Awami League (AL) at Debtala village in Shailakupa upazila of the district yesterday morning.
Of the injured, Rabiul Islam, vice president of the upazila unit of Jubo League, Sohrab Malita, Ayub Malita, Kuddus Malita, Lutfor Malita, Sazzad Hossain, Tukun Hossain and Rezaul Hsossain were admitted to the upazila health complex while the rest given first aid.
Police and locals said there was a longstanding conflict between former union parishad chairman Shamsuzzaman Panna Khan and Zila Parishad member Monowar Hossain Malita over establishing supremacy in the area. Both are the local AL leaders of the village.
As a sequel to the conflict, the men of Panna and Monowar attacked each other with lethal weapons around 10:00am yesterday, leaving at least 15 people from both sides injured.
Of the injured, eight are supporters of Monowar and the rest are the men of Panna, said Officer in charge Kazi Ayubur Rahman of Shailakupa Police Station.
On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, said the OC.
Additional police personnel have been deployed in the area to avert any further trouble, said the police official.
