Students, teachers protest at human chain
Students of Dorikhoshila Government Primary School in Tangail’s Kalihati upazila formed a human chain yesterday, protesting armed assault on the school’s headteacher.
At the human chain formed in front of Bhasani Market in Rampur area of the upazila around noon, nearly 200 students and teachers from different schools displayed placards, demanding punishment for the attackers of the teacher.
On Saturday morning, a group of criminals severely injured Mofidul Islam, the headteacher of the school, by hacking him with sharp weapons in Gandhina Battala area on his way to the school.
The teacher is currently undergoing treatment at Tangail General Hospital.
Meanwhile, in the afternoon, a rally under the banner of Kalihati Upazila Government Primary School Teachers’ Association was held on the premises of Somgani Government Primary School, protesting the attack on Mofidul.
Mofidul’s younger brother Mushfiqur Rahman said a number of people including a couple of local BNP leaders had hostility with his brother over land of a mosque and a madrasa.
Hasan Al Mamun, officer-in-charge of Kalihati Police Station, said police already arrested two people --Iman Ali and Tuhin Ali -- and they were on the lookout for others involved in the assault on the teacher.
