Six JMB men jailed for 10 years
A Chapainawabganj court sentenced six members of banned Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment in two cases.
The convicts are Selim alias Harun, 26, of Charmohonpur in Chapainawabganj municipal area, Abdul Rakib alias Suman, 26, of Samjola village under Shibganj upazila, Rabiul Islam alias Rabi, 21, of Mushribhuja village and Ramjan Ali, 24, of Kharogpur village under Bholahat upazila, Abdul Mumin alias Abdullah, 28, of Koilardiar village under Gomostapur upazila in Chapainawabganj and Hazrat Ali alias Firoj Kabir alias Ali, 23, of Paranpur village under Niamotpur upazila in Naogaon.
The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each, in default, to suffer six months more.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Shawkat Ali delivered the verdict in presence of the accused.
According to the prosecution, police arrested JMB member Rabiul from his house at Mushribhuja village on June 17, 2009.
Following his confession, police went to Ramjan’s house at Kharagpur village and seized a pistol, three bullets and books on jihadi from while Ramjan fled.
Rabiul told law enforcers that some JMB men were trying to regroup in Bholahat, Shibganj and Gomostapur upazilas of the district.
SI Mizanur Rahman filed two cases against JMB men with Bholahat Police Station under Arms Act and Anti-Terrorism Act that day.
Later, police arrested rest of the accused and investigation officers concerned pressed charges against them.
