SI closed for beating businessman
A sub-inspector of Sharsha Police Station was closed to Jashore Police Lines on Tuesday on charge of beating a businessman.
The victim, Moshiur Rahman Bablu, 55, father of Al Mamun Shaon, a local journalist of an online news portal, is undergoing treatment at Jashore 250-bed General Hospital.
During primary investigation, it was found that SI Sahabur Rahman tortured Moshiur, said Jamal Al Naser, additional superintendent of police (ASP).
On Tuesday afternoon, a police team led by SI Sahabur waylaid Moshiur and his friend Dulal Hossain at Shyamlagachi on Benapole-Jashore road and searched them but did not find anything.
At that time, the SI tried to take Tk 20,000 from the pocket of Moshiur. As he declined to give the money, the SI got angry and started beating him, alleged the victim's son Al Mamun Shaon.
From there, Dulal took seriously injured Moshiur to Jashore General Hospital.
The victim's son Shaon and his colleagues lodged a complaint to Jashore Superintendent of Police Moinul Haque and ASP Jamal Al Naser visited Moshiur at the hospital to investigate the incident.
Subsequently, SI Sahabur was closed.
