Five activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) were hurt in police action when the BCL men, who did not get posts in the organisation's newly formed Basail upazila committee, brought out a procession in the upazila headquarters and blocked road on Wednesday afternoon.
The district unit of BCL on Wednesday approved a 41-member upazila committee with Kamran Khan Bipul as convenor for three months, said Murad Hossain, convenor of Basail Emdad Hamida Degree College unit of BCL, also a candidate for convenor post in the upazila committee.
The BCL men who got posts in the committee brought out a procession in jubilation in the upazila town in the morning, he said.
On the other hand, the BCL men who were deprived of posts in the committee brought out a procession in the afternoon protesting formation of the committee comprising junior, married and non-student people, he said.
At one stage, a police team came to the spot and charged batons to disperse the agitators, leaving five BCL men injured, he said.
