Rash festival in Dublar Char cancelled due to cyclone ‘Bulbul

Bagerhat district administration today decided to cancel the traditional ‘Rash Mela’ festival in Dublar Char in the Sundarbans area sensing adverse impact of cyclone Bulbul.  

The three-day Rash Mela was scheduled for November 10 in Alorkol area of Dublar Char but this year it will not be held on safety ground, reports our local correspondent.

Pradip Basu, general secretary of the mela organising committee, said, they have taken all necessary preparation to celebrate festival but they were denied permission from the authorities concern due to the unfavourable weather.

However, pujas and other religious programmes on this occasion will be held like the previous year, Basu told our Bagerhat correspondent.

Divisional Forest Officer of the East Sundarbans Forest Department Mahamudul Hasan said, the organisers cancelled the Rush Mela due to the inclement weather.

Hundreds of boats carrying thousands of devotees throng the venue, close to the coast of Bay of Bengal, under Sharankhola Range of the mangrove forest every year.
