Nusrat murder: Accused councillor sent to jail
Sonagazi municipality Councillor Moksud Alam has been sent to jail in connection to the murder of Alim examinee Nusrat Jahan Rafi.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Tania Islam sent him to jail after he was produced and sought in 10-day remand questioning, our Feni correspondent reports.
Inspector Md Shah Alam of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), investigation officer of the case, confirmed The Daily Star of the development today.
The court also fixed next Monday for his remand hearing, he said.
Moksud, a member of the governing body of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa and also acting general secretary of the municipality unit Awami League, was arrested from Fakirapul area of Dhaka last night.
A total of 11 people including the madrasa principal Siraj have so far been arrested in connection with the arson attack and murder.
WHAT HAPPENED TO NUSRAT?
Nusrat, a student of Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa, was set ablaze on April 6 allegedly for refusing to withdraw a case filed against the principal for sexually harassing her late last month.
Only a few minutes before the Alim exams on April 6, four unidentified people allegedly took Nusrat to the roof of the three-storey administrative building of the madrasa saying one of her friends was being assaulted there, victim's brother Mahmudul Hasan Noman had said.
She lost her battle for life on April 10, five days after she was set afire -- an incident that sparked outrage all over the country.
