Lightning bolts kill 13 in districts across country
Lightning bolts killed seven people in different areas of Pabna, Sylhet, Mymensingh, Netrakona and Kushtia districts yesterday.
Four people including a man and his two sons died as lightning struck them at Pachuria village of Chakla union in Pabna’s Bera upazila at noon, reports our correspondent.
The victims are Md Motaleb Sardar, 55, his two sons Md Farid Sardar, 22, and Md Sharif Sardar, 18, and Raham Ali, 50.
Lightning struck them around 12:30pm when they went to process rotten jute in a field near Pachuria Primary School at the village, said Bera Upazila Nirbahi Officer Asif Anam Siddiquee.
The upazila administration provided support for burial of the deceased, he said.
Our Sylhet Correspondent reports: A father and his son were killed as lightning struck them on a boat in the Boulai river in Tahirpur upazila of Sunamganj yesterday morning.
Haridul Miah, 45, and his son Tara Miah, 10, of Manikkhila village of the upazila were catching fish in the river around 9:00am when a lightning bolt struck, killing them on the spot, said Shahab Uddin, member of Dakkhin Sreepur union parishad in the upazila.
Our Mymensingh Correspondent adds: Four people were killed and one was injured by lightning strikes in Phulbaria and Phulpur upazilas of Mymensingh and Kalmakanda upazila of Netrakona yesterday.
Fisherman Chaito Bormon, 22, was killed and his elder brother Monu Bormon, 25, of Hatilate village in Phulbaria was injured as lightning struck when they were catching fish at a local water body around 2:30pm, said Md Firoz Talukder, officer-in-charge (OC) of Phulbaria Police Station.
Sohag Mia, 22, son of Abdul Mazid of Baula area in Phulpur, died on the spot by a lightning strike around 2:00pm when he was taking care of his ducks beside home, said Imarat Hossain Gazi, OC of Phulpur Police Station.
At Poyari village in the upazila, Jamal Uddin, 40, died by a lightning strike when he was working at his seedbed at noon, he said.
Lightning killed Enamul Haque, 22, son of Mohammad Ali of Sanyasipara in Rongchhati union under Kalmakanda upazila of Netrakona, in the morning.
Enamul was critically injured, being struck by lightning when he was grazing his cow at a field. Neighbours took him to Kalmakanda Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared him dead, said Kalmakanda Police Station OC Md Mazharul Karim.
Our Correspondent adds from Kushtia: A lightning strike killed three labourers when they were loading banana from an orchard at Khordogram village in Alamdanga upazila of Chuadanga around 4:30pm, said Munshi Asaduzzaman, OC of Alamdanga Police Station.
They are Bazlul Huda, 32, Al Amin, 30, and Hamidul Islam, 23, all hailing from Kolaidanga village in Meherpur Sadar upazila.
