Inflation rises to 5.62% in July
The country’s inflation increased 10 basis points to 5.62 percent in the first month of the current fiscal as both food and non-food price increased in July.
In June, the inflation was 5.52 percent, 11 basis points lower than previous month riding on a decline in both food and non-food prices.
Planning Minister MA Mannan informed this while releasing the monthly consumer price index report of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistic (BBS) after the meeting of Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) at NEC today.
He said the inflation slightly increased in July as price of vegetables increased due to heavy rain and flood in rural areas which hampers production.
Mannan also said the flood also disrupted the supply chain of vegetable.
Besides, people purchased more products during Eid-ul-Azha that increased the price of both food and non-food items as demand raised.
Food inflation increased 2 basis points from 5.40 percent in June to 5.42 percent in July, while non-food inflation was 5.94 percent last month, went up 23 basis points from 5.71 percent a month ago.
