Idols vandalised in Shariatpur
Miscreants vandalised idols of Hindu gods and goddesses at Rishipara Kali Temple under Sadar upazila of Shariatpur early yesterday.
“Miscreants vandalised idols of goddesses Kali, Monosha and Sitola and gods Shiv and Hori. A worshiper found the disfigured idols in the early morning when he went to the temple. The miscreants also disconnected the temple's electricity line,” said Ronjit Rishidas, general secretary of Rishipara Kali Temple Committee.
“Our temple is situated in a very busy place beside the Dhaka-Shariatpur road. Palong Police Station is 300 metres from our temple, but the temple is not secure in such a place,” said Sunil Rishidas, president of the committee.
“Just before our national election, this kind of incident makes us anxious,” said Mukul Chandra Roy, president of Shariatpur unit of Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishid.
“On information, we rushed to the place. We will try to arrest the perpetrators by checking the video footage of buildings in that area,” said Palong Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Monirujjaman said.
Md Iqbal Hossain, Awami League candidate of Shariatpur-1, Abdul Momen, Superintendent of Police and Kamrul Hasan Additional Superintendent of Police visited the place.
