The victim’s father lodged a written complaint with Manikganj Sadar Police Station today in connection with the brutality over his daughter yesterday.

According to the complaint, the victim was married to Sujan Mia, 23, son of Abdul Baten of Beutha village under Sadar upazila, a year ago. Sujan, a carpenter by profession, has been torturing his daughter on different pretexts, the statement said.

Yesterday, Sujan locked into an altercation with his wife, who is a little over four months’ pregnant, after he found his towel not fresh, the victim’s father said in the complaint.

At one stage, he started beating her up for not bringing a fresh towel for him and splashed hot water on her, leaving her wounded, it said.

Talking to the correspondent, the victim echoed her father’s complaint and said her husband splattered hot water on her with an intention to murder her on Sunday.

Lutfar Rahman, resident medical officer of the hospital, said the victim suffered 30 per cent burns but she was out of danger now.

However, she will be kept under observation for 72 hours, he said.

Manikganj Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rakibujjaman acknowledged the development and said a police team was sent to the scene.

Police were trying arrest Sujan, he added.
