Five businesses fined
Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) yesterday in a drive in Manikganj fined five different businesses, including two pharmacies, a total of Tk 65 thousand for selling expired and spurious products.
Led by Asaduzzaman Rumel, assistant director of DNCRP in Manikganj, the drive was conducted at Jhitka Bazar of Harirampur upazila.
Unu Mong, assistant superintendent of police of Rapid Action Battalion-4; Nazrul Islam, Harirampur upazila sanitary inspector; Motiur Rahman, member of Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB); and leaders of Jhitka Bonik Samity assisted DNCRP during the drive.
Amit Pharmacy was fined Tk 30 thousand while Matribhumi Pharmacy Tk 25 thousand after the DNCRP found expired medicines in both drugstores.
Two rice traders -- Zakir Rice Agent and Niranjan Rice Bhandar -- were fined total Tk 5,000 for using colour in rice meant for sale.
DNCRP also fined Tk 5,000 to Sujan Jori House in the market for selling bootleg cosmetics.
