Driver killed after truck plunges into the Padma at Paturia ferry terminal
A truck driver was killed when his vehicle plunged into the Padma river after he lost control while trying to drive onto a ferry at Manikganj's Paturia terminal last night.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately, said Abdus Salam, manager (commerce) of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), Aricha.
He said the truck sank after the driver lost control of the steering in an attempt to get on a ferry around 10:30pm, leaving the driver dead on the spot and the helper injured.
The helper was taken to hospital, our Manikganj correspondent reports, quoting the manager.
The sunken vehicle was extracted from the river with a BIWTC crane, added Abdus Salam.
