College boy stabbed dead
A college was stabbed to death in attack by rivals allegedly over a land dispute in Bakerganj upazila yesterday.
The deceased, Sajib Karigar, 20, son of Razzak Karigar of Puidata village in the upazila, was an Intermediate student at Maheshpur Degree College.
Deceased’s cousin Sajeda Begum said there had been a longstanding feud between their family and one Subrata Sarker of the village over the ownership of a disputed land.
The incident occurred, when Subrata and his men attacked slain Sajib’s uncle Taiyab Ali Karigar as the later tried to resist the gang from cutting earth from the disputed land yesterday morning.
At one stage, when Sajib tried to save his uncle from the attackers they stabbed Sajib on the chest with a knife, leaving him dead on the spot.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Barishal Range) Abdur Rakib said they have already detained eight people, including Subrata, for their alleged involvement in the murder.
