7 held for 'spreading rumour' in social media

Seven people have been held countrywide for “spreading rumour, false information against the state, and doctoring photos” on the social media.

The detainees were identified as Md Rabiul Islam, 42, Md Akhlakuzzaman Ansari, 43, Tofazzal Hosen Helal, 40, Tanvir Hasan Mohan, 22, Md Yusuf, 30, Abu Rayhan Al Biruni Pushkin, 43, Md Abul Kalam, 34.

They were detained in different drives conducted in Uttara, Rajshahi, Chattogram, Madaripur, Cumilla, Bogura, and Kishoreganj from yesterday, according to a press release from Rapid Action Battalion (Rab).

The detainees also allegedly manipulated photos of ministers, chief election commissioner and some top law enforcing officers, the release said.

Legal actions against those detained is underway, the release read.

The move comes within two weeks of Awami League winning the national election, for the third time in a row, by an unprecedented landslide.
